Xreal and Google launched Xreal Aura on Wednesday (Oct. 28) at Google's Android Developer Summit, calling the $1,099 device the first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR.

Orders are open now in the U.S., Canada and South Korea. [Google says](https://blog.google/products-and-platforms/platforms/android/xreal-aura/?ref=engineerpal.com) Japan orders open Nov. 2, though Xreal's [release](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/xreal-aura-launches-as-the-first-wired-xr-glasses-powered-by-android-xr-302921776.html?ref=engineerpal.com) lists Japan among markets that could order "starting today." U.S. buyers can order from Xreal's site or Best Buy, and Google says buyers must be 18 or older.

"This is a defining moment for XR," Xreal co-founder and CEO Chi Xu said in the company's [launch press release](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/xreal-aura-launches-as-the-first-wired-xr-glasses-powered-by-android-xr-302921776.html?ref=engineerpal.com). "We built Aura for people who want the power of spatial computing without being removed from the world around them."

Some things are still unknown. Neither company has given an exact ship date beyond mid-November, and we haven't confirmed Canadian, Korean or Japanese launch-offer pricing. No independent reviews of image quality, comfort, tracking or battery life were available when we checked on Friday morning.

## Price and specs

The $1,099 figure is a launch offer, not a permanent cut. According to [Xreal's product page](https://www.xreal.com/aura?ref=engineerpal.com), the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model normally costs $1,279, and the 16GB and 512GB model drops from $1,499 to $1,299\. Both offers run through Dec. 31.

Xreal says buyers who paid the earlier price will get the difference refunded. Xreal GM and spokesperson Ralph Jodice told [The Verge](https://www.theverge.com/tech/1020960/google-xreal-glasses-debut-meta-vr-glasses-price-release-date?ref=engineerpal.com) the refund will be automatic. The press release says the offer covers standalone purchases only, not bundles.

The original $1,279 and $1,499 prices were announced Oct. 7, when Xreal opened preorders to reservation holders, according to an [earlier Xreal press release](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/xreal-aura-starts-at-1-279--bringing-wired-xr-glasses-with-android-xr-to-customers-this-year-302900445.html?ref=engineerpal.com).

Aura splits the hardware in two. The transparent glasses, which Xreal lists at about 95 grams, connect by cable to a 265-gram compute puck that holds the chip, the battery and a touchpad. By EngineerPal's math, that's about 360 grams for the full kit; Xreal doesn't list a combined weight. Key specs from Xreal's spec sheet:

- **Display:** Sony micro-OLED, 1920 x 1200 per eye, up to 120 Hz and 1,050 nits peak, 32 pixels per degree
- **Field of view:** 70 degrees, which The Verge describes as diagonal
- **Chips:** Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Reality Elite in the puck, rated at 48 TOPS for AI tasks, plus Xreal's X1S coprocessor in the glasses with 3 ms motion-to-photon latency
- **Memory and storage:** 12GB and 256GB, or 16GB and 512GB, UFS 4.0
- **Battery:** 4,455 mAh (34.84 Wh) in the puck, with none in the glasses
- **Sensors and audio:** two tracking cameras, hand tracking, an RGB camera with a privacy LED, four mics and Bose-tuned speakers
- **Fit:** two sizes for interpupillary distance, M (60 to 66 mm) and L (66 to 72 mm), with prescription lenses available

For battery life, [Xreal says](https://tutorials.xreal.com/docs/aura/power-charging/?ref=engineerpal.com) the puck lasts 3 to 4 hours of typical use. That's a vendor figure, and nobody has tested it independently yet. The puck charges over one of its two USB-C ports with up to 57 W input, and Xreal recommends a charger of at least 18 W.

The lenses use optical see-through, so you look at the room directly instead of through cameras. Electrochromic dimming offers five levels to darken the view for movies.

## Who should consider it

On software, Aura runs Android XR with Google Play apps plus more than 150 apps made for XR, according to Google. Gemini can see what you're looking at, both in the room and on your screens. Input options include hands, voice, the puck's touchpad, and Bluetooth keyboards, mice and controllers.

The most practical feature for many buyers may be Wired Mirroring. It lets you plug a laptop or handheld gaming console into the puck over USB-C and use its screen as a resizable window next to Android XR apps, Google says.

Whether it's worth $1,099 depends on how you'd use it. A 70-degree view is wide for see-through glasses, but it's still a window rather than full immersion. The cable to a pocket puck and a claimed 3 to 4 hours of battery life suit flights, commutes and desk sessions better than all-day wear.

Buyers who mainly want a private big screen for a laptop or handheld have the clearest case. Anyone hoping for a standalone headset replacement should wait for independent reviews. Those should arrive close to mid-November, when shipping is expected to begin.

The accessories are still unpriced. Xreal announced a GameSir-made controller with a dedicated Gemini key and a portable wireless keyboard, but [The Verge reports](https://www.theverge.com/tech/1020960/google-xreal-glasses-debut-meta-vr-glasses-price-release-date?ref=engineerpal.com) there's no price or release date for either yet. Xreal hasn't priced its prescription lenses either.

Google says Japan orders open Nov. 2, U.S. shipments are expected to start in mid-November, and the launch pricing ends Dec. 31\. Xreal [has said](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/xreal-aura-starts-at-1-279--bringing-wired-xr-glasses-with-android-xr-to-customers-this-year-302900445.html?ref=engineerpal.com) more markets will follow in 2027.
